Vancouver - Canada

Last stop: Vancouver!

I confess, it has taken me some time to update the final post of our most recent trip.  We arrived in Vancouver on May 23 and Richard, my step-father, met us at the port.  Thank God for him, because he drove us all around Vancouver and White Rock and gave us a lovely place to stay in his home.  This pic above is driving through Stanley Park (I think?)
Above is the pier at White Rock.  This is a quaint and laid back town just a short drive south of Vancouver City. It turns out that White Rock is often sunny when Vancouver is experiencing rain.  Something to think about:)
It was great to visit Fort Langley and all the historic sites with our good, old friends John and Carrie.  We actually met them on a transatlantic cruise five years prior and have kept in touch ever since.  We really enjoyed catching up with them and seeing their lovely home.

Here above is Richard with Cassio and me overlooking Vancouver from Grouse Mountain.  Sadly, it was a pretty grey day, but pretty nonetheless and typical of the weather there.
The day we had set aside for sightseeing downtown was super rainy, so Richard gave us a tour of the major sights from the car.  Above here is entry gates to the famous Chinatown.
On a different day, we went downtown with Richard and his friend (now ours too), Donna.  We checked out Gastown and the photo above shows the steam clock that runs on steam and "sings/whistles" every 15 minutes.

Then we headed over to Granville Island which had a farmer's market and little artisanal shops.  Really fun day!

Granville Island entertainment...
To top off the day, Richard, Donna, Cassio and I went bowling!  It was really fun.  Richard and Donna bowl 5 pin regularly, and Donna had never tried 10 pin before.  I think we have a convert!
It was a great, if short, visit to see Richard and get a chance to see Vancouver for the first time.
The view of the Rockies from the plan went on and on....truly majestic!
